This is the dictionary definition of what the word invasion is means, at least in the American Oxford dictionary, and the term is very much heavily used in invasions of countries but of course it can also mean a viral infection of the body which is a double pun for the game Resistance as the Alien invaders are not just from beyond the stars and invading country by country but also the idea of who the Chimera infect/ invade the body and slowly mutate the human body into a Chimeran solider.
Inspiration
The key question now is how are we going to take this idea of invasion and look at it in a different way than what has been provided for the competitions so far, my first thought was of radio broadcast of War of the World by Orson Welles on 31st of October 1938, where with a clever bit of switching between what seems like different programs ended up causing a major panic as people honestly believed that the world was being invaded by Aliens.
The youtube clip above is the opening 10 minuets of that broadcast which at the beginning has informed the viewer that this is a show and not actual broadcast, displaying the fact that it was just so well done as a show and research of how a broadcast would come across to make it believable.
Of course as the world is so well plugged into communication it would be impossible to get the same full effect as what happened in the 1930’s which was largely helped in terms of believability as there were no pictures and video images to been seen so no one could of judged what was going on, while anyone living in the places where these events were happening would not be able to get in easy contact with the rest of the country to dispute the facts of the broadcast.
Of course for this single broadcast was well funded and was a part of major and well respected broadcast company, the reasons that I have listed above dose show how much trouble we would have to do something for this game at least on this scale, but we can at least take some of the ideas from the show and use some of the broadcast techniques as the game is based in the same time period.
The idea of dealing with the invasion also made me think of the story of the world that the game is based in where in the first game we see the United Kingdoms being liberated from the Chimeran invasion after the destruction of the tower network, which broadcast a possible control signal over the country.

This is the outer packaging to the original game, as you can see it has a apocalyptic style to it with a feeling of world war one trench fighting but most likely a already lost fight
As such the idea of human survivors emerging to the sight of the sun rising, on a cold winters day which in connection of the story of the aliens liking the cold and wanting to keep the earth in a constant state of snow.
Also while discussing idea for the project we talked about doing something with one man isolated in a dark room looking out the window perhaps slight signs of insomnia and lack of social interaction making the character twitchy and nervous, this would be a specially lighted piece with the only sound being the crackling of the radio and the dust particles.
Another possible idea was making a series radio messages telling people of there freedom using famous speakers of are time such as Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, Orson Welles, Martin Luther King and many other, as a base to build from as such we would be looking at the style of speech of these great speakers and how they inspired people to fight on and seek freedom or fight on in the face of a long battle.
The link bellow is a site that has listed some of the most important speeches or most impressive speakers in recorded history.
35 Great Speeches
It is critical in looking at these people that we understand why there speeches are still remembered and even looked to as defining moments in are history, what was the reason behind there speech what were they talking about and who they were talking to as a listening audience.
It is easy to say now looking back at Churchill speech and say that it was a brilliant inspiring piece of English but as me and Mike have disused it is only remember for a few key lines, which is the We will fight them on the Beaches
The key things to remember when making these videos is that we are trying to stay way from cliche of game footage and showing off just how good the game looks on the PS3, the publishers want us to be showing more connection to the idea of man kind being threatened/ invaded.
Although while getting in put from lectures the idea of doing something metaphorical perhaps taking the name of the game and looking at making a light heart joke of it.
Although this is a good idea in one level the serious nature of the game may make the idea of abstract or metaphorical may not be the right sort of advert for a game that is meant to be a serious story of a nation fighting invaders from beyond the atmosphere of Earth, although in saying this could be a interesting twist to take the game name and perhaps insinuate the game as the infection and have people buying it like mindless zombies which is an idea I have taken from Liam suggesting having the aliens shopping in Ikea or having a happy meal.
